The Storm Might Be Big, But God Is Bigger

THE STORM MIGHT BE BIG, BUT GOD IS BIGGER!

The Storm Might Be Big, But God Is Bigger is more than a story of a hurricane. It is about the moments when life changes in an instant. Larry W. Shearer takes readers inside the journey of the Smith family, who faced both fear and faith as Katrina swept away their world.

Through their eyes, we see what truly lasts when everything else is gone. Possessions fade. Walls crumble. Yet love, hope, and faith stand firm. Larry was inspired to write after seeing a simple message on a piece of plywood: “Katrina was Big, But God is Bigger.” That one truth stayed in his heart until it became this book.

This is not just a story of survival. It is a reminder that no matter what storm comes—whether wind, water, or worry—God’s presence is always stronger. Every page speaks with comfort, courage, and unshakable faith.

About The Author

LARRY W. SHEARER

Larry W. Shearer spent more than thirty years as a teacher, counselor, and coach in Kentucky. His life has always been about helping people grow, whether in classrooms, on fields, or in conversations filled with encouragement. Married for over fifty-five years to his college sweetheart, Susan, he treasures family most of all. Together they raised three children and now celebrate the joy of six grandchildren.

At eighty years old, Larry wrote his first book. The seed for it was planted years earlier, when he joined a mission trip to Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina. He saw the pain of loss but also the strength of faith shining through broken homes and hurting hearts. Out of those memories came a story meant not for fame, but for hope.

Larry’s purpose has never changed. In teaching, in family, and now in writing, he simply wants to remind others that storms may come, but God’s love never fails.
